What is Bridges of Hope?
Bridges of Hope is a coordinated demonstration organized by Austin Democrats. Participants gather on bridges across the city to show unity and make our collective voice heard through a visible, city-wide presence.
Do I need to pay to participate?
No! Participation is completely free. Simply create an account, choose your bridge, and show up on event day.
Is this a protest or a demonstration?
It's a peaceful demonstration. We gather on public sidewalks to show solidarity. We follow all laws and do not block traffic or pedestrian access.
Can I bring my family?
Yes! This is a family-friendly event. Children are welcome but should be supervised at all times. Please use your judgment about your children's ability to stand for the duration.
What if I can't stand for long periods?
Some bridges have more accessible areas than others. Contact your Bridge Captain through the chat to discuss accommodations. Bringing a portable chair is allowed where space permits.
Is it safe?
Safety is our priority. We only use pedestrian areas, have Bridge Captains coordinating at each location, and maintain open communication throughout. Report any concerns immediately.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Check the forecast! Layers are recommended. Blue attire is encouraged but not required.
Can I bring signs?
Yes! Homemade signs are encouraged. Keep messages positive, on-topic, and family-friendly. Avoid anything that could be construed as threatening.
Why can I only join one bridge?
We want to ensure even distribution across locations and accurate headcounts for coordination. You can change your bridge assignment if needed before the event.
What if the weather is bad?
In case of severe weather, check the app for announcements. We'll communicate any schedule changes through the Global Feed and Bridge Chats.
How do I become a Bridge Captain?
Bridge Captains are appointed by organizers. If you're interested in taking on this role, contact us through the admin team.
